I have a friend who is such a wonderfully creative teacher. She shared with me the cute craft idea she is making with her Sunday school class this Easter. The craft includes a treat bag of jelly beans and a copy of the Jelly Bean Easter Poem for each student. Each color of jelly bean coordinates with Biblical truth or idea. Make these in advance as an Easter gift to handout to your class or junior church students. Simply put a few of each color jelly bean in the bag and attach a copy of the poem with a ribbon.
If you prefer, this can be used as a visual aid as you teach the Easter story. Prepare for class time by having a large bowl of jelly beans with copies of the poem for each of the children. As you read the poem emphasize the color and they can eat one of each of the colors as you say the color.
You can also make these little treat bags or read the poem and eat the candy with your children or grandchildren as you tell them the story of Jesus. They are a sweet reminder of what the focus of this Easter Resurrection Sunday is all about!
JELLY BEAN EASTER POEM
RED is for the blood He gave
GREEN is for the grass He made
YELLOW is for the sun so bright
ORANGE is for the edge of night
BLACK is for the sins we made
WHITE is for the grace God gave
PURPLE is for his hour of sorrow
PINK is for our new tomorrow
A bag full of jelly beans,
Colorful and sweet,
Is a prayer,
Is a promise,
Is a friend’s small treat.
Happy Easter to You!
P.S. – I’ve made a free, decorative copy of this poem that is available as a printable download just below.
You can adjust the pdf document size to whatever you’d like. Use it with the kids in your life this Easter!
