When Jesus left this world to return to Heaven, His last command to His followers was to go into all of the world and spread the Good News of salvation to every person. Just as Jesus took those rough men, worked alongside them and trained them to be evangelists, He wants to work with us and reach others with the Gospel. Here are some practical ideas and tips to help you when sharing your faith.
Practical Tips for Sharing Your Faith
-
Follow Christ.
In Matthew 4:19, Jesus told the fishermen to follow Him and He would make them fishers of men. What a beautiful analogy! These men turned from the temporal business of fishing for food to fishing for the souls of humans to give them eternal life. The key to their success in spreading the Gospel wasn’t in that they just desired to do so, but that that they chose to follow Christ. Following Jesus is what changes us from common sinners to born-again witnesses for Him. As I am following the Lord I am aware of His presence in my life and I can then hear His voice as He tells me to reach out to someone.
-
Be Soul Sensitive.
Jesus said in John 4:35 that unsaved people are all around us, but that we often don’t see with spiritual eyes and we overlook them. Yet, as we going through this life, we are surrounded by lost souls who need to know the saving grace of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Ask God to open your spiritual sight and make you sensitive to the presence of the unsaved around you.
-
Focus on Giving Out the Gospel.
We are so blessed when we know Jesus Christ is our personal Savior and that we have been rescued from the penalty of sin. Often we become complacent once we believe all those closest to us are born-again. Our focus can get misplaced onto things that will not matter in eternity. Ask God to give you a true desire to share your faith with others.
– Live a Godly testimony so those around you will listen to your witness
because they have seen your life back it up.
– Be a kind, friendly and approachable person.
– Be prepared to share Christ with others. Carry Gospel tracts and a small Bible.
Put to memory the verses that will assist you in leading someone to Christ.
– Ask the Holy Spirit for witnessing opportunities and then watch for them.
– Share the Gospel in humility. The ground at the foot of the cross is level.
Don’t look down in pride on those who have not yet received Christ.
– Tell others your testimony and what God has done in your life. -
Leave the Results of Your Witness to the Holy Spirit.
Don’t pressure anyone to say a prayer with you. If they are ready to be saved, it will not be a problem. However, perhaps you are just planting the see of salvation and someone else will water it and the individual will come to Christ later. Don’t be disappointed or try to convince someone to pray before they truly understand and are sincere. God rewards us for the labour, but the results are up to Him!
